Domain Lookup

Just what is domain lookup? You might be wondering this as you google such a keyword, well I am here to help solve your problems. There are several types of domain look ups, I will get into them each with its own separate blog post. But in general a domain lookup lets you know who is the owner of a domain in question, what is their address, email, and telephone number.

You might be wondering: Wouldn't that be privacy concerns to leave your personal data lying around. Well you're absolutely right, that is why most person people purchase a WHOIS protection along with their domain purchase. What does a WHOIS protection do? Well a WHOIS protection protects all the personal data and every complaint email that is sent gets redirected to your mail inbox without actually revealing your own personal email address.

So anyone can do a domain look up? Even me? The answer is absolutely yes! Usually your domain registrar will let you look up a domain or you can go to this trusty site I always use: http://domaintools.com and type in the domain of your choice and get the results you're looking for.

What else is there to a domain lookup? Well like I said a domain lookup can include a lot of information, including where the domain is hosted at (the webhost it is currently using) and the ip address that is linked to it along with the rDNS (reverse DNS) of the ip (tells your the carrier). This look up is actually a bit more diffcult to manage for common users and most users will have no use for this. However it is open access to the public and if you must you can use two ways.

1. Use http://www.dnsstuff.com
2. Open up command prompt type in: tracert domain.com this is where you replace domain.com with either the domain or the ip address

I hope you have enjoyed my brief insight on domain lookup. Navigate on the right side as I go more into each specific lookup.
